DR. NANCY DURSO: When considering fertility treatment, some basic testing must be done. The first is a day three FSH level to determine ovarian reserve. Then tests for ovulation should be done around mid-cycle with an ultrasound. And about a week later, a blood test for a progesterone level. An HSG, or hysterosalpingogram x-ray is done to determine if the tubes are open. A semen analysis should also be done on your husband. If any of these tests are done prior to the first visit, please bring copies. Usually you do not need to repeat them if they have been done in the past year.
